Members of the Human Body
The head is made up of the skull and the face. The trunk is made up of the thorax and abdomen. The limbs are divided into upper (arms, forearms, shoulders and hands) and lower (hips, thighs, legs and feet).
The limbs allow the body to move, that is, they are responsible for mobility, support and balance.
Upper Limbs
The upper limbs are:
- Arms : The human body is made up of two arms (left and right), with the humerus being the only bone present in these limbs.
- Forearms : Located between the elbows and wrists, the forearms are made up of two bones: the radius and the ulna (ulna).
- Shoulders : The shoulders, also called the shoulder girdle, are formed by two bones: the clavicle and the scapula.
- Hands : The human body is made up of two hands, each made up of 5 fingers. The bones of the hand are: carpal bones (eight bones), metacarpal bones (five bones) and finger bones or phalanx (three bones).

Lower Limbs
The lower limbs are:
- Hip : The hip (pelvis, basin or pelvic girdle) is the transition point between the trunk and lower limbs. It is formed by the bones: ilium, ischium, sacrum, and pubis; and in women this structure is wider in order to facilitate childbirth.
- Thighs : The thighs are located above the knees and act to support the body. They are formed by the largest bone in the human body: the femur.
- Legs : The legs support the body and are located between the knees and ankles. They are formed by the bones: tibia and fibula.
- Feet : The human body is made up of two feet, each of which has 26 bones, namely: tarsals (7 bones), metatarsals (5 bones) and the bones of the feet or phalanges (14 bones).
Curiosities
- The lower limbs are considered larger, stronger and more resistant, as they act in supporting, moving and balancing the body.
- The lower limbs are formed by 30 bones on each side, of which 26 are located in each foot.
- The longest bone in the body is the femur, the thigh bone of the leg.
